Working together to create opportunities to strengthen our community by building relationships, addressing social issues, and sharing resources.

City of Mesa Diversity & Inclusion
Individuals of our department participate as members of City of Mesa employee resource groups where they have access to leadership training, professional development, events and networking that support personal growth and professional success. Resource groups include Mesa Hispanic Network and National Forum for Black Public Administrators.

Community Service Projects
Our department frequently holds community service projects to enhance the lives of our community, like the revitalization of the Healing Garden at the Mesa Veteran’s Resource Center.

Community Liaisons
The Mission of the Community Liaisons is to create relationships between the Mesa Police Department and the community, to provide effective avenues of communication for community members, and to address cultural and quality of life issues that transcend ethnic, cultural, religious and geographic barriers to increase the quality of life for all citizens.

Cultural Awareness Training
Each of our police officers and recruits receive cultural awareness training to ensure that all team members are kept current on changes, trends, and diversity awareness.

Innovation Committee
The Innovation Committee is comprised of younger officers who discuss new ideas that can improve our department so we can better serve our community’s needs. The committee looks into current policies, procedures, equipment, and more. Recent committee suggestions that have been implemented include better trauma kits for Patrol Officers and window breaks/seatbelt cutters for all Patrol/CIU/SCU vehicles. Other projects that are currently in the works include a new Supervisor Evaluation Tool, patrol vehicle decal update, and a review of outdated dispatch policies, just to name a few.

Parades and Festivals
Our Diversity & Inclusion Team participates in multiple parades and festivals throughout the year including the East Valley Veterans Parade, East Valley MLK Parade and Celebration, and more.

Police and the Community Training
Each of our police officers and recruits receive training on the importance of developing community partnerships.

Raise Awareness Campaigns
Every year the department takes part in campaigns to raise awareness about issues and causes that affect our community. We have also raised money to fund programs for Special Olympics athletes, individuals affected by breast cancer, and more.

Women’s Leadership Symposium Series
The Women’s Leadership Symposium Series focuses on leadership development for women in law enforcement with the intention of inspiring individuals to advance their own personal and professional development. Executive level speakers from various industries discuss the challenges they’ve encountered in their journey.

30x30 Initiative
Our department took the 30x30 pledge in 2021. The ultimate goal of the 30x30 Initiative is to reach 30% of women in police recruit classes by 2030, and to ensure our agency is truly representative of the community we serve. While 30x30 is focused on advancing women in policing, these principles are applicable to all demographic diversity, not just gender.
